Project: Auckland War Memorial Museum
Date: February 2006
Location: Auckland
Architect: Noel Lane Architects / Peddle Thorp Aitken Architects
Engineer: Holmes Consulting Group
Contractor: Hawkins Construction
Concrete Supplier: W Stevenson & Sons Ltd
Type of Unit: Two sets of 16.4m long twin post-tensioned beams as part of the strengthening and upgrade of the existing building.
Reason for choosing SCC: The beams are located in the basement of the existing building where site access was difficult and space was severely constrained. SCC was chosen by the contractor to ensure intimate contact with the floor above where it was not possible to use conventionally vibrated concrete.
Outcome: The exceptional flowing and filling characteristics of SCC made it possible to execute the concreting effortlessly. The result was a structure of excellent quality without any defects.
