What the judges said
Concrete has formed a significant role to transform a tired redundant lot into a vibrant community park in the heart of Takapuna.
Concrete has been used extensively in a variety of forms, textures and surface finishes to create park furniture, retaining walls, paving and other special features.
In this environment, the functional sustainability is without question, and there is a high level of detail and precision in both insitu and precast elements.
This is an environment where the concrete elements and features are conspicuous first and foremost, and carefully and sensitively wound around the other natural landscape features.
The project's success - and that of the contribution of concrete - is evidenced by the large number of people who enjoy the park and adjacent cafe and retail facilities that it connects with.
